As far as I am concerned, lists of “top” and “best” wines should be about labels that you just can’t resist buying. And here’s a great example: The 2011 Barolo by Giorgio Scarzello. It has great depth, spice, complexity, and is such a classic expression of austere “Baroloness.” It has all the components that a wine like this should have in abundance. Then comes the rush of flavor in the mouth. It’s so wide-reaching that it’s hard to describe. It’s almost intimidating, in fact. The perfect balance of this Nebbiolo lands it squarely and firmly among those wines that you just can’t forget.
